I was browsing Twitter today when I stumbled across a tweet from @TwelveDrawings. Having always been intrigued with art and drawing, I was instantly drawn to the tweet and soon found my way to www.twelvedrawings.com.
And I found a treasure trove of encouragement and inspiration.
Illustrating the 12 Steps
The artist wishes to remain anonymous in the spirit of the 12-step programs, but he has created a drawing for each of the 12 Steps, the Serenity Prayer, the 12 Promises, and the 12 Metaphors. On each page, the artist writes about his personal recovery experience related to that step and whyhe chose to draw that image for that step.
The artist explains that these images are the outgrowth of his personal recovery process—and at Duffy’s we also understand how important art is to our recovery. Because these drawings are an outgrowth of his recovery, you may visit his site to download the images for free, if you’re using it for personal use.
Art As Therapy
I hope these will be as much of an encouragement to you as they are to me! I’m curious, are there other people who have chosen to use art or music or some other form of creative expression to visualize or picture their recovery journey?
