Some exciting things are happening in the addiction research world. The Ernest Gallo Clinic and Research Center at UC San Francisco recently published a study in which they were able to target and deactivate a brain pathway that makes a person, or rats, in this case, crave alcohol.
The study suggests that preventing relapse could be possible just by taking a prescription drug that basically erases the memory of alcohol for a period of time. No triggers means no relapse, wouldn’t that be wonderful? However, the study is just the first step in making this possibility a reality.
Whether this new relapse prevention approach becomes an option or not, it’s still important to address the underlying problems of addiction. Although it would be nice to have a pill to take away the cravings, true freedom comes when we’re ultimately fulfilled and satisfied in all aspects of life.
