According to a CNN article from December 2010, Christmas and New Year’s show a significant increase of alcohol-related accidents over the rest of the year.
The article quotes Kenneth R. Warren, acting director of the National institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, who identifies the statistical significance that
“during Christmas and New year’s, two to three times more people die in alcohol-related crashes than during comparable periods the rest of the year.”
These sobering statistics are not going unnoticed in the government. On November 30, 2011, President Barack Obama declared December 2011 as National Impaired Driving Prevention Month. In his proclamation, the President encouraged the nation to renew their “commitment to drive safely, act responsibly, and live drug-free.”
