Katrina (Treen) Hickey
Clinical Lead
Treen joined the Duffy’s team in September of 2020 as a Documentation Specialist. Her keen clinical insight and genuine ability to connect with guests earned her a promotion to Counselor, and, shortly thereafter, Clinical Lead.
Drawing on her own personal and family experience, Treen devoted her life to advocacy for the underserved, especially children. She worked as a preschool teacher for 9 years and even had the opportunity to build and serve as Director for her own school on a Native American Reservation. Treen has held leadership positions in the HOOP (Hearing Our Own People) Youth Program, Relay for Life, and many other youth-focused non-profits. Additionally, she has facilitated outreach for people affected by suicide and organized child abuse prevention activities across Lake County. Her heartfelt service to her community was recognized in 2010 when she was awarded Advocate of the Year and again in 2018 when she received the “Leading the Field in Child Development Award” by the Lake County Child Care Planning Council.
For the past 4 years, Treen has made recovery her passion. Having found the key to happiness, fulfillment, and joy through Al-Anon, she now helps others discover meaningful and beautiful things within themselves. Witnessing guests’ transformation during treatment at Duffy’s is a constant source of inspiration for Treen. The culmination of her personal and professional experience enables her to greet even the most difficult cases with empathy, understanding, humor, and hope.
Treen is a trained facilitator of Nurturing Families and Triple P (Positive Parenting Practices). She oversees the Parenting in Recovery groups at Duffy’s, helping mend broken relationships through effective communication, rebuilding trust, setting boundaries, taking accountability, and moving away from guilt.
